Idiomatic expressions have a unique role in our language. They often contradict the fundamentals we have learned, yet they are a crucial component of the way we communicate. It is difficult to be a part of any conversation without some form of idiomatic expression being exchanged. For many non-native speakers, failure to grasp these expressions can lead to a disconnect in communication and feelings of isolation. This can create social barriers for many individuals, preventing them from going out and having interactions outside of their small communities.  As someone who was raised in a non-native English-speaking household, I can relate to these experiences on a personal level.
