Painting, stitching, and contorting materials, I search for visual and visceral answers regarding identity. Materials become surrogates for my personality: the youthful flexibility of textiles that relate to my body; bright and exuberant qualities as seen in metallics or glitters that become symbolic of my outward expression. Found objects relate to being raised in a family of women and how that affects my ethics and relationships. The cyclical process of constructing my work parallels an interminable search for these answers. The surface treatment of materials aims to obscure their identity, resulting in visual forms that are ambiguously representing internal thoughts.
