Studio Art
Exploring topics such as social justice, family experience, and trauma, development of opinions through the lens of history, both my own and American history, I seek to
detangle the world in which we live, both my own familial experiences and those that may be more universal. I explore these ideas through printmaking, as I carve into linoleum blocks and use CMYK printing to create and manipulate imagery, and tell a story with which the viewer can empathize on some register although the viewer may not know all its details. The element of craft, especially needlecraft in my work is influenced by the women of my family, particularly their quilting practices. There is a unique history in needlecraft, and I seek to preserve it by continuing the practice of the women who came before me. Through my work, I seek to help people come to terms with their own experiences and start conversations about what we are all seeing and experiencing.
